I have the dubious pleasure of working a few days at this years Melbourne boat show, which I'll be present at the Hobie kayak stand both Fri and Sat. So if you're based in Melbourne and are planning to attend the show to check out whats new or maybe even pick up a bargain or two, pop on over to stand D93 to say g'day. If you do I'll cya there!
I've written up a new and more in-depth guide for the SLH website on Hobie's pedal-powered kayak propulsion system, the illustrious Miragedrive. It is a multi-part article that covers basic usage tips as well as a run down on maintenance and servicing. It should prove to be insightful reading for anyone looking for tips on how to look after their drive and keep it in good reliable working order.
Hobie have released their newest rendition of the Hobie kayak parts and accessories catalogue, which features quite an assortment of new gadgets, including mounts to miragedrive fins. There's a lot of cool new stuff in there to list, and Australian readers should refrain from getting too antsy about some of the new products as not all of it is available here yet (so don't hound you dealer too aggressively just yet, please). Click here to download the new catalogue (5MB PDF)
I was sent an interesting product flyer from the makers of Shark Shield today, that features a product comparison on Shark Shield Freedom 7 up against the ESDS Anklet. If the research backs up the information shown in the comparison, then it doesn't look good for the Anklet. Regardless of the specs and features in question, for me its a pretty simple thing - even if the Anklet were comparable in terms of capability, the lack of an antenna makes it a no-brainer as far as kayak fishing goes.
Hobie cat Australasia has let the cat out of the bag, revealing that the 3rd annual Hobie Fishing World Championships is once again set to take place in Australia. While the target species is the same (the ever-elusive bream) the location is different. Victorians will be wrapped to hear that it will all be going down at the Bemm river system, from Oct 30 - Nov 3.
Update: Triple Hex is sold *sniff*
However, it was sold without the trailer... so now the trailer is up for sale on it's lonesome. Will post full details on that shortly
I've threatened to sell my beloved Adventure Island a few times recently, first because of financial issues, and more recently because I have the luxury of using a demo AI from work, figuring I might be able to put some money to better use (like a pinball machine for the lounge room). But on the recent ABT event at Bemm, after spending a couple of days on it I decided I simply couldn't part with it because it is more comfortable and performs better than a stock standard model (like a store demo one for example) and was too well set up for fishing for my liking. But today I received some horrible news that has forced me to find some cash quickly, and this is my only means of getting it. So once again - and I mean it this time - my AI is up for sale.
If you're a regular visitor to Modern Kayak Fishing here, no doubt you have seen for yourself that there have been some dramatic renovations, though this time a lot less radical than the last iteration. This rendition shares some of the same mobile-friendly device-responsive technology but does away with the infinite loading technology, which I've since concluded better suits other styles of websites better than this one.
